Have you ever wanted to roleplay as a certain horned sith lord? Well you’re in luck, cause Dark Souls 2 introduced this weapon type just for you! The twinblade is the weapon of choice for those that want to slice, dice, and look nice at the same time. But which one is the best? Let’s take a dive and rank all twinblades found throughout Drangleic.
6. Sorcerer’s Twinblade
First on our list is the Sorcerer’s Twinblade. I’m going to be pretty forward and just say “Yo, this bad”. I can’t find any redeeming qualities for this thing. Its terrible STR and DEX scaling is understandable due to the “sorcerer’s” part of its name, but it also has absolutely no scaling with INT or FAITH? Why? A measly C appears only when infused with magic or dark. It can double down as a catalyst for sorceries (but not hexes for some reason), but I honestly recommend just getting a better weapon and pairing it with something like the Staff of Amana. Taken straight from the item’s description: And it hopefully stays that way. How to get: Inside a chest on top of a tower/roof, accessible after defeating Aava, the King’s Pet and thawing the area.
5. Curved Twinblade
Ah yes, the crowbar. The Curved Twinblade has two things going for it: innate bleed, and the best DEX scaling out of all the twinblades. So why is it only ranked fifth? Well, because frankly its stats aren’t impressive enough. The bleed effect is relatively weak, and in my opinion, infusing one of the better twinblades further in this list with bleed is a better option. If you’re hellbent on using it though, try pairing it with bleed-boosting items such as the Shadow Gauntlets or the Crest of Blood. Applying a Bleeding Serum works fine too! How to get: Rank 1 in the Brotherhood of Blood covenant, or purchased from Chancellor Wellager in NG++.
4. Twinblade
As the first twinblade you’ll come across in your journeys, “the twinblade” is plain and simple. It’s the go-to choice for quality builds, scoring Cs in both DEX and STR, making it a very serviceable choice until you find a better one or choose to redistribute your levels. Infusing it with poison or bleed is a good option since it gets 140 AR in those stats. But most of the other infusions aren’t bad options either. How to get: Purchased from Weaponsmith Ornifex, found in a chest in lost Bastille, or in the last room before Sir Alonne.
3. Stone Twinblade
A very good choice for any STR build due to its A scaling, the Stone Twinblade is another “simple but good” entry in our rankings. Infusing it drops the scaling down a notch, but adds another B in whatever you infused it with. It’s very useful against enemies that you’d want to stagger quickly. Just be careful with the durability (the Bracing Knuckle Ring helps with that). Really not much else to be said here. You like twinblades and have loads of STR? Then use this! How to get: Dropped by Stone Knights and Aurous Knight Phantoms.
2. Dragonrider Twinblade
Here’s a better version of the Sorcerer’s Twinblade, and this bad boy should be the preferred weapon for any intelligence build. There are a lot of paths you could take with this one. But if you’re a spellcaster of any kind, you’d probably want to go with magic, fire, lighting, or dark. As with any twinblade, poison and bleed are both solid alternatives. And here’s a weird little tidbit about it. The description says: But you never see a dragonrider wielding one ingame. Really makes you think! How to get: Trade Dragonrider Soul with Straid of Olaphis.
1. Red Iron Twinblade
The crème de la crème of the twinblade world. In DS2, the Red Iron has everything you’d ever want. After a patch, it received an enormous buff in scaling and AR, rocketing it all the way to number 1. So it has a very high Attack Rating, great scaling, high poise damage, high durability, and a good moveset! You can also slap on the Stone Ring for maximum poise destruction and staggering. The only bad thing about it is how late in the game you get it (Shrine of Amana? Booo I say!) How to get: Found on a corpse in Shrine of Amana, at the place where you find Peculiar Kindalur.
