They’re one of the easiest monster types to summon, requiring only two monsters of the same level on the field. No matter what sort of strategy you’re looking to play in your deck, there’s an XYZ monster for you. And this list will look into rank 6 monsters, the XYZ monsters you can summon with two or more level 6 monsters on your side of the field.
10. Norito the Moral Leader
If you’re playing a spellcaster strategy then this card is worth checking out. It requires two level 6 spellcasters to XYZ summon, and while that may sound pretty specific, remember that one of the most iconic cards in Yu-Gi-Oh fits this exact description: Dark Magician Girl! And here’s what Norito can do: Once per turn at quick effect speed, you can detach an XYZ material from this card, then negate the activation of any spell or trap card and destroy it. This is an amazing way of providing your spellcaster deck with protection from spells and traps. Dark Magician decks in particular are super sensitive to this – if your copy of Eternal Soul gets destroyed by your opponent’s card effect, then you’re looking at a board wipe heading your way. Being able to stop your opponent from touching your cards in the first place is the perfect way of protecting your board from destruction.
9. Pilgrim Reaper
Remember when sending cards to the graveyard was a bad thing? Pilgrim Reaper is an amazingly versatile rank 6 that works especially well in dark decks. By detaching an XYZ material, you can force both players to send the top 5 cards of their decks straight to the graveyard. Not only does this load up your graveyard with a whole bunch of monsters to summon later on, but it also makes your opponent’s deck thinner, making them closer to losing by deck out. What’s more, Pilgrim Reaper gets stronger every time you activate this ability, as the card gains 200 attack for each dark monster in either graveyard. Considering you’ve just put 10 extra cards in the graveyard, chances are this guy’s attack stat is going to skyrocket before you know it – especially if your opponent is also playing a dark deck!
8. Sword Breaker
Sword Breaker is an amazing way of dealing with any sort of monster in combat, no matter how strong it may be. By detaching an XYZ material you can declare a type of monster card (e.g. fiend, warrior, fairy etc.). Then if this card battles any monster of that type, that monster is instantly destroyed at the start of the damage step! This means that it really doesn’t matter how strong your opponent’s monster is. If it’s the selected type, it’s going down. This isn’t just good for dealing with one monster either. A lot of decks in Yu-Gi-Oh are mono-type. There are definitely a few exceptions to that rule, but 9 times out of 10 your opponent will be playing mostly one type of monster in their deck, meaning Sword Breaker can go on an absolute killing spree when played right.
7. Pairen the Skylark Dragon
I’ll say it: this XYZ monster is annoyingly tricky for your opponent to get rid of. While any monster that was special summoned from the graveyard is on the field, this card is completely impervious to destruction by battle or card effect. In modern Yu-Gi-Oh, players are summoning stuff from their graveyards left right and center – meaning the chances of this card being indestructible are seriously high! If that’s still too much of a gamble for your liking, this guy’s got you covered. You can detach an XYZ material from this card to special summon any level 5 or lower monster from your graveyard. Not only does this fill your board up with more monsters to smack your opponent with, but this provides a way to ensure that this card’s protection is always active – meaning your opponent will have a seriously hard time trying to get rid of this guy.
6. Photon Strike Bounzer
Effect negation is absolutely crucial for staying ahead of the game in Yu-Gi-Oh. There are a whole bunch of different monster effects that can mess up your game plan, making cards like Photon Strike Bounzer essential for your extra deck. Once per turn at quick effect speed, you can negate the activation of any monster effect, while also burning your opponent for 1000 damage. This is an amazing way of keeping your opponent on the back foot. Not only will their monsters be rendered useless, but they’ll also be hit for some serious damage. And before you know it, the game is yours for the taking.
5. Constellar Ptolemy M7
For the longest time this guy was seen as the best rank 6 staple, and it’s easy to see why! Once per turn you can detach an XYZ material to target a card on the field, or in either player’s graveyard, and return it to the hand. There are so many different situations when this effect can come in handy. Maybe your opponent has a seriously strong extra deck monster, and you’d like to send it back from whence it came. Or maybe you’re looking to recover some of your used-up hand traps. Either way, if you’re playing any amount of level 6 monsters in your deck, this card is an absolute must-have for your extra deck.
4. Number 39: Utopia Beyond
It’s no surprise that the Utopia monsters, the cards used by the Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal protagonist, are incredibly powerful. And Number 39: Utopia Beyond is one great example. When this card is XYZ summoned, the attack of every single one of your opponent’s monsters becomes 0! Just when your opponent thought they had an amazing wall of high-attack monsters to keep them safe, this guy comes swooping in and blows through them like they’re nothing. What’s more, this guy has a great way of bringing back your Utopia XYZ monsters. By banishing another XYZ monster you control, you can bring back any Utopia monster from your graveyard, while also gaining 1250 life points! More monsters, more life points, more attack power. It’s a win-win-win!
3. Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis
Most of the damage in Yu-Gi-Oh is dealt during the battle phase. But sometimes you just need a reliable way to burn your opponent from some crazy high damage. Number 6 may be one of the best burn cards ever printed, burning your opponent for half of their overall life points! If you play this at the beginning of the game, you’re looking at a whopping 4000 points of damage. To utilize this effect you’ll need another “Number” XYZ monster in your graveyard. This is an easy feat, though, as most of the best XYZ monsters are Numbers cards anyway. And when this card is XYZ summoned, you can then equip that Number monster to this card, gaining attack equal to half of the equipped monster’s attack. Then you can detach an XYZ material and send that equipped monster to the graveyard to halve your opponent’s life points! The crazy thing about this ability is that it technically isn’t inflicting damage to your opponent, it’s simply halving their LP – this means they can’t activate any cards like Gorz the Emissary of Darkness back at you, or any sort of effects that regain burn damage. Which makes Number 6 an incredibly effective way of burning your opponent for good.
2. Cyber Dragon Infinity
Cyber Dragons are the undisputed kings of the XYZ summon, and this guy is the reason why. While you can use level 6 monsters to XYZ summon this card, the more effective way is to summon it using Cyber Dragon Nova as the sole material – as that card is a rank 5 XYZ monster and way easier for Cyber Dragons to summon. Cyber Dragon Infinity also gains 200 attack for each card attached to it as XYZ material, meaning it starts out at a nice 2700 attack! What’s more, this card can attach any face-up attack position monster to it as XYZ material once per turn. So this guy gets stronger and stronger the longer he’s up on the field. The real cherry on top for this card is the negation it provides. Once per turn, at quick effect speed, you can detach an XYZ material to negate and destroy the activation of any card or effect! This provides you with protection from spells, traps, and monsters. And the fact this guy refuels his own XYZ materials means you can negate stuff repeatedly.
1. Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal
Foolish Burial is an amazingly powerful spell card that’s limited for a good reason. Sending specific cards from your deck to the graveyard is the key to unlocking a whole myriad of powerful combos in Yu-Gi-Oh! Well, what if you could access that card whenever you like? Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal is a rank 6 XYZ monster that’s pretty much a Foolish Burial on legs, allowing you to send any card from your deck to the graveyard at quick effect speed! This means you can start some seriously powerful plays during your opponent’s turn. There are cards that special summon themselves, blow up cards on the field, or let you draw extra cards, all while they’ve been sent to the graveyard. Being able to trigger these effects during your opponent’s turn opens up a whole new world of combos and strategies to try out, making this a must-have for any deck that can use it. And if that wasn’t enough, you don’t even need level 6 monsters to summon it in the first place! You can XYZ summon it using any Dante monster you control as the sole material, with the most notable option being Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss – a rank 3 XYZ monster that only requires two level 3 monsters to summon.
