The majority of greatswords are meant to be used with a quality build, focusing on leveling both dexterity and strength. Fortunately, in DS2, wielding a weapon with both hands cuts down its strength requirement by half. So there exist a small amount of weapons within this class that can reach their full potential with only a few points in strength.
3. Drangleic Sword
Along with being one of the best dex choices, the Drangleic sword is also the earliest dex-based greatsword that you can get – you only need to defeat a couple of bosses right at the start of the game. Compared to some other greatswords, it possesses excellent base damage and scaling, though some people might find its reach and moveset a bit lacking for their taste. Due to its upgrades needing twinkling titanite, I’d advise you to avoid using it during the mid-game, and equipping it back again later after it’s fully maxed out. How to get: Treasure in the Forest of Fallen Giants, on a ledge after the Pursuer boss fight.
2. Drakeblood Greatsword
Two words here: Counter Damage. The Drakeblood greatsword has the second highest counter strength in its weapon class, bested only by the meme that is the Key to the Embedded. This bad boy has multiple avenues it can go through, and most of them work out. You can either keep it on the regular path as is, or infuse it with one of its two innate elements, to further boost its potential (though this one is more oriented for mixed builds). Fun fact, it’s also one of the two weapons in the entirety of Drangleic that can have four different damage types at the same time. How to get: Treasure in the Dragon’s Sanctum, found on a corpse left of the elevator room.
1. Loyce Greatsword
The best dex greatsword we’re showcasing today is the weapon of the famed Knights of Eleum Loyce! While it might have slightly less damage than some other greatswords, its incredible moveset and reach more than make up for it. It should be noted that the scaling after infusion is probably not displayed correctly, since your physical damage will tank even though the weapon will still have an S in dexterity. Not to mention that this might just be one of the prettiest blades available – but that’s entirely subjective. How to get: Trade the Soul of Lud, the King’s Pet with Weaponsmith Ornifex.
