The Wii U version of Terraria will be the first Nintendo version to support online multiplayer – a feature absent from the 3DS version due to hardware limitations. A number of other features that were not available on the 3DS version due to hardware will be included as well, such as:
14 unique environments Hundreds of craftable items Over 150 enemy types Grand scale boss battles Wide open worlds to explore 4 player split-screen co-op 8 player online multiplayer
The Wii U version of Terraria is expected to be a near identical port to other console versions of the game with the exception of new features unique to the 3DS and Wii U. This included the ability to use the touchscreen to modify, build, and dig through the in-game environments.
Nintendo has been a little late to the party for Terraria, with many of the ports of the game having been released in 2013 and 2014. Terraria itself is 5 years old as of this month, and so the Wii U release is certainly a case of “better late than never”.
